What 'Made in the UAE' should really mean!
Growing up we often looked bellow our toys or at the tags of the shirts we wore out of curiosity. And when we did we often read "Made in China, Made in India, Made in Taiwan". What does it REALLY mean to be made in a place?
There are rules applied that makes a product eligible to stick the "Made in X" tag on it. The golden rule is that you produced the product yourself.
Producing a product means creating it from raw material.
Producing a product by bringing different parts from across the globe and putting it together is called assembly NOT production.

When a pistol parts is made in Germany, by German workers and expertise, you can't stick the Made in UAE tag on it. Simply because it was not made in the UAE.
Why am I making an issue out of this you probably wonder? Simply because I want to witness that day where most of our products are made solely & entirely by us. Also, I realize the big mistake that being unable to differentiate between production and assembly can lead to.
If we can't distinguish what is made in the UAE and what isn't then we would never put a lot of effort in producing nor manufacturing.

The Franchise Trend
I have subscribed to National Geography العربية ONLY because I am interested in photography! Anyways, I started to look around the magazine & I was very unsatisfied with the content.
EVERY article in the magazine is a translated version from the original magazine. The only local content in this magazine was "the letter from the editor & the advertisements".
Instead of having a magazine like "Zahrat Al Khaleej", I demand attention on establishing local content magazines with high intellectual standards & creativity.
Here is an image of something I spotted in an article which made me decide to stop reading.

Why should Abu Dhabi invest in franchising yet another "brand name" instead of investing in its locals in the media sector. We have been doing that perfectly now with (CNN Abu Dhabi, National Geographic Abu Dhabi, NYU Abu Dhabi, Sorbonne Abu Dhabi, NY Film Institute).
To whom it may concern, brand names only take away from the actual content & quality of the organization. Please re-consider where you invest.
